Waste Plastic Bag Recycling

In our daily life, we can see all kind of plastic bags everywhere. Plastic bag almost becomes one part of our life. Surely it brings a lot of convenience to our life; however this convenience also causes long time harm to our earth and human beings. We call this kind of disaster as “White Pollution”.

Plastic bags are not only creating visual pollution to people as they can be easily seen scattered around the city streets, in the tourist area, water, roads and railways, but they also create potential harm. Plastic’s structure is very stable and it is difficult to be degraded by natural microbial. It will exist in the natural environment for long term without degradation. This means if we do not collect the waste plastic bags properly and recycles, they will become the contaminant in the environment and accumulate as time goes by and create great harm to environment.

Landfill for the plastic bags actually is not a good way because the plastic bags take up a great number of land, the land which were taken up cannot get recovered, thus affect the sustainable utilization. The plastic bags under the land will need around 200 years to degrade according to expert.

Baling machine is helpful equipment for recycling waste plastic bags. It can compact your large volume of plastic bags into small and uniform dense bales, thus reducing the waste storage space and saving transportation cost, also easy for recycling. Many models are available from Sinobaler for handling all range of waste plastic bags, including vertical baler and horizontal baler, automatic baler and semi-automatic baler.

Which is right for you? Manual feed balers or continuous Auto-tie horizontal balers?

As the business world is changing towards doing things in a more environmental friendly way, baling machine is becoming an essential equipment to help giving waste materials a second life.

A right baler can easily help a company cut down cost on storage, transport, and some time manpower, which helps increases a company’s bottom line by turning the company’s recyclable waste to revenue. You will be able to obtain a positive Return on Investment within a relatively short timeframe.

But which baling machine is the right one for you?

There are two basic baler designs that are generally used by industry – vertical baler and horizontal baler. The key difference between these two types of balers is how the recyclable material is compacted.

Vertical balers compress waste from the top down (vertically), that is why some call this type of baling machine as down stroke balers. They are usually stand-alone machines, and typically required manual feeding and strapping. Whilst on the other hand, horizontal balers compress waste sideways (horizontally). Most horizontal balers are accompanied with in-feed conveyor or cyclone for achieving continuous feeding to increase efficiency. They can be further classified into closed end and open end types. For closed end horizontal balers, the strapping is usually done manually, compared to the open end ones, strapping and ejection of the bale is done automatically.

In terms of footprint, vertical balers are the smaller of the two. Thus, they are more suited for facilities where space is limited. With lesser raw material, such as steel, required for building, vertical balers are also more cost effective compared with horizontal balers of similar compressing force. However, with the restriction of manual feeding and strapping, the bale making speed of vertical balers is not comparable with that of continuous auto-tie horizontal balers.

To sum it all up, vertical balers are usually manually operated, and compress from the top down. They are best suited for smaller businesses where waste is not overwhelming hence lower output demand – i.e. small manufacturers, retail stores, supermarkets, textile manufacturers, or anywhere else with small quantities of recyclable materials.

Horizontal balers are the larger of the two machines. If equipped with continuous feeding, automatic strapping and ejection of bales, such continuous output is ideal for larger quantities of recyclables and constant usage.  With such automated machine, manpower requirements can also be cut to the bear minimum.

There is no absolute conclusion of which baler is better than the other. Considerations need to be made based on your facility’s space availability, waste material volume, labor availability and cost, as well as your financial condition.  Of course, there are still many other points need to review before selecting a right machine.  But with these basic pointers in mind, it will certainly help you to eliminate unwanted choices and communicate better with any professional baler sales representative to recommend you a right baler.

What a Baler can do for your Business

Utilizing a baler helps compact the amount of waste and recycled materials generated by the daily operations of a business. Compacting waste can save that business money and free up space. By compacting materials, balers help businesses generate extra income from spending less on waste removal. Balers also take up less space than storing the materials until they are picked up by a waste and recycle service. This also creates a safer working environment for employees.

When deciding on the perfect baler for your business the three most important determining factors are: The volume of recycled material your business will be producing, the size of that material, and the type of materials you will be recycling.

Baler Types:

- Horizontal Balers: These balers are ideal for businesses with higher production rates and need a baler to compress bulky and large quantities of recyclable materials. The most efficient balers, horizontal models are loaded at the top and compress side to side and usually operate automatically.

- Vertical Balers: Vertical balers are most common amongst businesses that need to recycle a variety of materials such as clothing, cardboard, plastic, etc.  These balers are loaded from the top and compress materials from top to bottom. Ideal for smaller businesses such as grocery stores, vertical balers produce lower volumes of recycled materials and can be easily operated by one person.

Balers are a great and effective way for a business to reduce the cost of the removal of their waste and recycled materials. Horizontal and vertical balers are the most common type of balers; however there are other types of balers available that come in a variety of sizes and capabilities. Such balers include cross cylinder balers, coconut fiber balers, and textile balers.

Baling Machines – Horizontal Balers

Baling machines are popular with manufacturers and other commercial industries because they provide an ideal solution in regards to the disposal of recyclable waste (this leads some people to confuse balers with trash compactors. We’ll clear that up rather simply: a baling machine is for recyclables, and a trash compactor is for trash.)

To that end, there are two basic “types” of baling machine designs – horizontal balers, and vertical balers. This article will provide a brief “birds-eye” overview of the basic differences between the two, and then focus on horizontal balers.

The biggest difference between horizontal balers and vertical balers is right in their respective names. Vertical balers compress recyclable waste from above (hence “vertical”), while a horizontal baler compresses the waste from the side. Vertical balers are generally meant to be manually loaded and operated (often just by one person), and are smaller than horizontal balers in terms of footprint. Thus, they are more suited for industries where occasional waste needs to be compacted.

Conversely, horizontal balers are more suited for industries / businesses where recyclable waste is abundant. Their “top feed” design lends itself to large quantities of recyclable material being fed into the machine. In fact, most horizontal balers are fed by a conveyor belt or forklift, meaning larger quantities of waste can be compressed than if it were fed by hand. This makes horizontal baling machines well suited for large operations or businesses with a large quantity of recyclable material.

Horizontal balers compress the waste from the side, and, depending on the model, may do so from two directions. This allows the waste material to be compacted rather tightly, usually tighter than a comparable vertical baler is capable of. In addition, most horizontal balers automatically tie/secure the bundles, and eject them continuously (one finished bundle pushes out the previous one, etc.) Combined with a conveyor feed, this allows for baling speeds far greater than their vertical baler counterparts. 60+ tons an hour is a possible output for some models.

With a compressing force of anywhere from 20 tons to hundreds of tons, horizontal baling machines can be found across many industries and are capable of recycling just about any material, from textile to metals to plastics. Their large feed capacity also makes them ideal for bulky waste, such as boxboard and many other fibrous products. And, of course, the larger / faster horizontal balers are the top choice for MRF’s (materials recovery facilities) and recycling operations.

With such diverse capabilities and superior speed/compacting capacity; it’s easy to see why so many businesses have chosen horizontal balers to help comply with local recycling regulations.

Baling Machines – Vertical Balers

Baling machines are used by manufacturers / industry the world over to handle recyclable waste (this is the main difference between a baling machine and a trash compactor – a baler is for recyclables, and a compactor is for trash.) To meet the needs of various industries, two basic baling machine designs are generally used – horizontal balers, and vertical balers. In this article, we’ll give a brief overview of the main differences between the two, and then focus on vertical balers.

As you may well have guessed, the key difference in horizontal balers versus vertical balers lies in their respective names. Horizontal balers compress waste from the side (horizontally) and vertical balers compress it from the top (vertically). Since they are generally fed from above via conveyor / forklift / etc, horizontal balers are usually for larger operations where speed and high baling volume are concerns.

Vertical balers, on the other hand, are typically smaller and more compact than horizontal balers, and (generally speaking) they operate with less ram force. The smaller footprint makes them ideal for manufacturers and warehouses that have some waste to bale, but don’t have a continuous feed of it coming in. Vertical balers are usually stand-alone machines, and are typically fed manually through the front or the side of the baling machine (think about it – since it compresses from above, it couldn’t be fed from above as well). Then a safety gate is closed, and the operator turns the baling machine on to begin the baling process. Once the compaction of the waste is complete, the operator ties the bundle manually (although some vertical balers have automatic ties) and ejects it for transport / recycling.

Vertical balers can be found in almost any industry, but because of the design and manual operation that are common in these machines, they often find their homes in smaller textile manufacturers, warehouses, grocery stores, or any commercial entity that generates waste like cardboard, PET (polyethylene terephthalate), UBC (used beverage containers), shrink wrap, general paper scrap, fabric scrap, and similar.

Vertical baling machines can be single ram or dual ram balers, and have a compressing force of anywhere from 10 tons to 150 tons (although most fall within the 10-50 ton range). In addition, most models can be easily operated by just one person, making vertical balers an ideal waste recycling solution for millions of businesses worldwide.
